Paris Montmartre 2017

That day in the City of Light

Andrei Krioutchenko

Graduated with Honours from the prestigious Academy of Fine Art in St. Petersburg in 1979. The captivating quality and beauty of his paintings reflect Andrei as a master of depicting intricate transformation of light, delicacy, and fine detail of the many facets of life in Paris.
During the decade following his graduation Andrei's work encompassed a variety of areas involving his skills in architecture, as a designer, and as an artist.
Since 1991 he has resided in France . And from then on he has had only one occupation – Artist. He has become a visual poet, depicting the many facets of Paris in his diverse works of art... defining and redefining, the look, and the textures, and the heart of the French world.

His exhibitions have taken place in diverse places around the globe, including Moscow , Paris , San Francisco , St. Petersburg ,London and New-York . His paintings are currently sold in galleries in France , and in the USA . You can find his works at the Galerie Hay Cie and the Galerie Rosha in Paris , and the “The Weatherburn Gallery”, Naples Florida.

Andrei's paintings exemplify a unique interpretation of a moment, balanced in arrangement, and subtle transformations of light.
Blending, in the spirit of old masters paintings, Krioutchenko commands the brush in a game of light and shade. His works are full of life and air. The delicacy and detail of his masterful technique translates reality without any limitations. As a master of intricate transformations of light, Andrei's work holds the viewer captive with the invisible magnetism of true artistry.

Master of Light and Shadow

The colors black and white, extreme ends of the color spectrum have been a part of multiple cultures around the world for centuries.  Usually they represent good and evil.  But in the world of art, black and white are colors most often used to create something quite different: bold contrast between light and dark or an effect known as chiaroscuro; a complex painting technique that suggests three-dimensional volume by the use of highlights and shadow.
The technique began to appear in 15th century paintings in Italy and Flanders.  But true chiaroscuro was developed during the 16th century when dark subjects lit by a shaft of light from a single often unseen source began to appear as a compositional device, most notably in works by Caravaggio.
Today, the technique remains an important element of great art and one of its masters is Andrei Krioutchenko.      Born in the Soviet Union but now living in Paris, Andrei is a gold-medal winning master of chiaroscuro who will be in The Gallery to introduce his latest collection Paris – City of Lights.
And what a great collection it is.  In all his works his mastery of the technique is very clearly demonstrated by his skilled knowledge of perspective, the physical effect of light on surfaces, and the definition of objects without use of a contouring line but only by the contrast between the color of an object and its background.
Chiaroscuro can also represent good and evil.  In the version of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, “Chiaroscuro” is the title of the chapter. Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
